Hi my name is Nick. I live in Canada, on its east coast. I like playing hockey, home renovation, video games and the great outdoors.
I’ve received coaching from Lee in 2017 and it dramatically changed my outlook on stuttering and on life! I began creating many fluency memories, until the point where I no longer thought much (if at all) about stuttering and became a fully -fledged PWSS. Why I joined SAC in 2020:
1) I want to give back to the community in some way. I sincerely hope that SAC reaches as many PWS as possible and that Lee’s movement continues to maintain its not-for-profit spirit. Of course there are costs associated with spreading Lee’s method, and that’s why I paid for the membership!
2) 2020 has been a tough year. For everyone. For me. Personally, I was laid off from a career job, forced to postpone my wedding and am unable to see friends and family in other provinces indefinitely. These events seem to have tipped me over into some old bad habits. I am therefore back working hard to master Lee’s crutches, daily ASTs, self-hypnosis treatments, reading aloud, etc.
Thanks for having me at SAC! Looking forward to getting to know everyone.

Hi Nicholas! Great to have you here. My name is Javier, I live in Madrid (Spain) and I’m one of the Certified Speech Coaches! I’m sorry to hear about all the stuff you’re going through due to this horrible pandemic situation. The good news is that you already know the things you need to you, you just have to “remember” them. Work harder on your mind-training to avoid the environment control your thoughts, and if you haven’t tried self-hypnosis, do it! I’ve been doing SHT for more than a year and it really helps me, not only with my speech.
We all hope to see you on Saturdays at the Speech Club meetings. In case you don’t know about it:
Have a great weekend!November 7, 2020 at 3:15 pm #28137Nicholas ForanParticipant
Thanks Javier for welcoming me to SAC! It was great to hear you speak/coach on the SAM meeting this morning. Great to hear about SHT and how it has helped you with your speech and your life… I absolutely agree I need to work harder on “mind-training to avoid the environment controlling my thoughts” as you so eloquently put it. I am currently finishing up reading Lee’s 3rd edition (I had previously only read edition 2) so perhaps after I am done: Do you think we may be able to chat sometime about self-hypnosis and how you’ve applied it in your self-cure? For me, the key to achieving fluency always seems to be speaking immediate when the URGE begins, and building so many fluency memories to the point where I no longer think about suttering… Just need to put in the hard work to get back there!
Anyways the long and short of it is: Thanks for welcoming me and great to be here 🙂November 7, 2020 at 4:07 pm #28138JavierModerator
Hi again Nick. It was great having you in the SAM meeting too. Sure, ask me anything you’d like about self-hypnosis. You can even post your questions about this subject (or any other) in the Forum. Most likely there will be others with the same doubts, so you would be helping others this way too. And of course, you can also ask them in the SAM meetings, especially the ones held on the first Saturday of the month (just like today, you can ask the coaches all your questions); that’s the purpose of those meetings: to ask, to listen to others and to learn.November 9, 2020 at 11:06 pm #28143Leah AreffModerator
Please come to the SAM meeting this Saturday! I would love to meet you!
