The reason why it’s hard to use crutches in public it’s because it’s a threating judgemental pressuring environment!!!
You will feel rushed….
What most do is just rattle on without thinking about crutches……..November 30, 2020 at 9:56 am #28308Leah AreffModerator
From all of your comments and questions, it seems that you are not here to improve your speech, but rather to prove that our methods do not work. Perhaps consider moving on to something which would serve you better?November 30, 2020 at 11:07 am #28318
I agree, I don’t remember reading any positive or constructive posts/criticism from Adam about the Lovett method, only these short negative comments (with lots of exclamation marks) about why these methods WON’T work.December 1, 2020 at 12:43 am #28330
I’m not here to bash!!! You got the wrong idea mates:-)
I just am not sure if your understanding where I’m coming from…..
Do you know how many NON- pws change words, and modulate their voice and are expressive without having a stutter problem…??? I have heard lots!
YES, I believe in self cure-but shouldn’t a self cure be done the way the PWS wants it to be???
The crutches simply have not beaten the source of my own problem……
I have repeated affirmations many many times…and they just don’t sink in…
In high pressured situations where I’m not alone, it’s tough to remember crutches…….
When your in a therapy room it’s easy to use tools and techniques………
Step outside the therapy room, your in the real world and thinks aren’t so relaxed…..
I simply don’t think you have understood where I’m coming from in my last couple posts…..December 1, 2020 at 1:03 am #28331
Do you know what the choral effect is?? I know all of us here have heard about the choral effect and delayed auditory feedback or D.A.F for short. Fortanetly, that for me eliminates word planning and hesitations and repititons and blocks…..unfortanetaly, the Lovett Method doesn’t include delayed auditory feedback and the choral effect. If I can hear myself -my voice delayed, that would enable me to use crutches-it would slow me down and make things easier. And that’s a positive. Don’t look at it as negative. See it as a positive! That crutch-the choral effect and delayed auditory feedback was never addressed unfortenately and was never a part of the Lovett method.December 1, 2020 at 7:28 am #28335
Maybe because it’s not practical and/or expensive. I have a DAF gadget, it’s as big as a cassette player (if you remember those) and the battery doesn’t long much. Nowadays, you can also order a smaller one (like a hearing aid) for thousands of dollars.December 1, 2020 at 8:23 am #28337
I mean, the battery doesn’t last very long.

I believe Lee never used those (remember, he beat stuttering like 40 years ago, when technology wasn’t as advanced as today), so he can’t give any piece of advice about them. Anyway, feel free to use this crutch, if it’s helping you, I don’t think he’d oppose.December 1, 2020 at 9:50 am #28341Leah AreffModerator
Whatever works for you!!! 🙂January 1, 2021 at 8:36 pm #28554LEE LOVETTParticipant
Adam, it takes PRACTICE to use Crutches, as I have told you, and as hundreds of people have demonstrated. It’s not that hard. Go to SAA and read 100 or so Success Stories and you will learn how well they work for others. If you want to Skype with me and discuss it, we can. Also, watch some of the 1,000+ coaching videos on SAC and you will see and hear Crutches being used well by many. Our methods work, and you well know it. Happy New Year. Coach Lee
