Hi again everyone,
I have a huge presentation coming up in about three weeks and I was wondering if anyone could offer some advice on how to approach it. In the past, when I know that I have a presentation coming up, I practice my speech so much that I memorize it. Usually, it works out very well for me. Reading Lee’s book, he stresses speaking with an urge and not planning words.
Should I just think of ides and the goals that I want my listeners to take away from the speech or should I memorize my presentation all together?
Thanks in advance!

Planning words is absolutely the worst thing that you can do as a PWS. You need to think ideas, passion, joy! If you are placing your attention on these things, there is absolutely no way that you can think about stuttering at the same time. It has been proven that our minds are incapable of thinking of 2 things at once. As much as people would love to believe that they are “excellent multitaskers”, this is simply not true. Only one thing can occupy our minds at any given time.
For your presentation, I cannot stress Crutch 11 enough. I believe that it will help you the most. Crutch 11, when mastered, becomes a way of speaking for life. If you would like some assistance with the above, why do you not sign up and you will receive one free coaching session. We can show you exactly what to do in order to prep for your presentation. Good luck, and let us know how it goes!June 30, 2020 at 2:15 am #27263Charley WatsonParticipant
Hi Tasneem, thanks for the feedback. I totally understand what you are saying about planning words. I do agree that Crutch 11 is a great Crutch, I just need to work on my soft voice because when I get nervous it seems automatic for me to talk loud. As far as coaching, I actually receive biweekly coaching from Lee which has been very helpful.
I’m so glad you mentioned this forum at our last speech master’s event so now I don’t have to wait until my sessions with Lee to ask questions.
I will keep you updated!July 5, 2020 at 8:07 am #27305Leah AreffModerator
Of course, feel free to post as many questions here as you would like. You never know, there may be other PWS out there who have the same questions and are just afraid to ask. We will be helping so many people by asking and answering as many questions as we can. It was great seeing you at SMC yesterday! Try and come as much as you can. I know it may seem as though I am so confident with my speech, but trust me I am still on the same journey as you. I am slowly learning to love to speak and SMC forces me out of my comfort zone. What I love about SMC is that if for some reason, you do not feel confident with your speech on that particular day, then you can sit and watch without saying a word for the whole hour!
Hope to see you next Saturday! It is going to be a great one!
