    Welcome Stephanie,
We are so happy that you are here. My name is Doug and I am one of the certified speech coaches. I stuttered all my life until a few years ago I picked up “Stuttering and Anxiety Self-Cures” by Lee Lovett. Reading his book, using his methods and Skyping with him, I became fluent in my late fifties. You have the tools here and the support to gain fluency. If you have any questions or need any help, you can contact any of us or me personally.
    Thank you,
    Doug Nelson

Fantastic news Gabor. I know it makes you feel good. You can remember this in your memory bank and it will help erase the bad ones of dysfluency.
    Good job

    Sun,
Mind training and knowing the crutches like nothing at all. I think that you have a same issue that I did or still struggle with and that is authority figures. I do 3 20 minute ast’s everyday. What you saying are true but we cannot continue to be silent if you have the tools to be fluent. Practice. You are doing great and I hope that this helps someone else also.

    Hi Amine,
I was a shut down blocker. I stuttered until I was 57 years old and then I read Lee’s book. It took me 3 months after reading his book and 3 skypes to become a PWSS. It is all about the mind. Basically what makes you stutter is fear of speaking.
Stutter memories of the past. You have to rid your mind of the negativity and replace it with positivity.
Reading out loud at least at hour a day. Saying 10 AST’s 20 times 2 times a day and knowing the crutches will make you successful. If you know these tools like the back of your hand, they come second nature to you.
I still might have a slip up, but I make sure that I don’t look disable. Changing your mindset is the key for you. I suggest the book “How to Win Friends and Influence People” by Dale Carnegie. It will help you with your negativity. Also make sure that you repeat several times a day .” Today, I will have a happy day.”.
Keep practicing and keep your chin up.

    Kellie,
I just chatted with Ken and he said to get with you on these meetings. I will be happy to help. If you want me to attend one with you or I can have one of my own, just let me know. I think that it is a fabulous idea. This of course, does not take away from the Speech Anxiety Courses. Practicing with other people is basically what we are concentrating on.
You can email if you like or respond this way.
    Thank you,

    Hi Sun,
I’m Doug and I’m a coach also, so I’m going to give you another idea to ponder. I still sometimes have a hard time on first feared words. Just like Leah and Javier said, speaking immediately doesn’t mean to interrupt. It means to NOT BE FEARFUL of speaking. Don’t drop off stutter’s cliff. It means, “ If I can say one word anytime, I can say any word anytime”.
I beat mine with auto suggestions at least twice daily, I do three because I was a terrible case and reading out loud from Lee’s book at least an hour a day.
I am sure that you have heard it before but you haven’t heard it from me, unless you have seen my videos. Keep up the good work!

    Shubham,
I have seen your work since day one and you have done it. Congratulations! Prathusha is a wonderful coach and she gets the best out of everyone, but it takes you to strive and get better and better everyday.Coach Lee Lovett has dedicated his life to help people who stutter and people who have speech anxiety problems. His methods are the only ones that I personally know of, are the ones that actually work.
I have gone on many other stuttering sites and communities and they want you to accept the fact that you will stutter forever. At WSSA, we all know that claim is false and Shubham you know that also. You do not have to stutter. I am in my late 50’s and if I can do it, anyone can. This system works.
Again, Shubham I am very proud of you and keep up the good work.

    Ken,
I have seen the techniques that they have used and it is mind blowing. The Rapid Fire game that Prathusha does helps me a lot. It does not give you the chance to think of the question. It is very amazing. When using these techniques it will train your mind to not worry about the first feared word.

After I became a PWSS, I was very nervous to get in a conversation with 3 or more people. However, I realized why should I be afraid. I have the tools now(crutches) to combat my stuttering. Slowly I progressed into conversations until I got comfortable. My suggestions is to read at least an hour out loud everyday. Your mind will hear the fluency coming from you and that will subside most of the dis-fluency memories. Also practice the crutches at home aloud until you know them well. You have the ammunition now so it is no need for fear.

    Hey Farooq!
Thank you for joining us. We are all one big family. We have all stuttered and some still battling it so we know what you are going through. I’m 59 about the same age as you so I will tell you, you are never too old to beat this thing. I did it in less than a year posting my success story this year. I am now in the WSSA Hall of Fame and training to be a coach. All you have to do is work the system every day. Read Lee’s Third edition is a must like Javier says. Thank you again for joining us and get ready to change your life.

    Tasneem,
I am a lot older than most of the other PWSS. I was born in the early sixties and there wasn’t much knowledge of how to help the parent or even a person who stuttered. Plus, the little knowledge that they did have did not work.
My parents were great parents but terrible parents as far as my speech journey goes.My mother would apologize to people when I spoke. She only let me speak when someone asked me a question and when they did I always looked at her for permission to speak
My Dad would always walk away whenI spoke. It was embarrassing to him.Things changed as I grew up because I had a little comedy act where I did impersonations and made up characters. I made people laugh and didn’t stutter at all. I would do the act if front of family and friends at first then graduated to do it at churches and some events. They were proud.
I didn’t know at the time what I was doing. I just loved to make people
laugh and I finally got the attention and approval from my parents?
My advice to parents is please to not make a big to do about your child’s stuttering problem. The incident will be in their mind for a very longtime. I still have the thought of my very first day of school and the kids laughing at me when I couldn’t say name. The key is getting rid of the negative and having mostly positive memories. Drawing attention like Tasneem says will make it worse.
Another suggestion is to give your child love and support. Get them in this program. If they stick to it, I promise you that they will beat stuttering.
    Thank you,
